CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) — A Thanksgiving tradition is returning for its 13th year, bringing the community together for a cause.
The annual Gobble Wobble begins at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at the Arena Park 4-H Building, 410 Kiwanis Drive in Cape Girardeau.
The event, hosted by myTEAM TRIUMPH, pairs athletes with disabilities with volunteer guides who help them cross the finish line.
Debbie Mazanec Leoni, president of myTEAM TRIUMPH, says the organization has spent the past 13 years building connections through races and other community activities.
“Our whole purpose is to help people. Everybody have the opportunity to get off the sidelines and to the finish line,” Leoni said.
The Gobble Wobble is a major fundraiser for the organization, helping support its efforts to make endurance sports accessible to people of all abilities.
“Last year we had over 700 participants, we are shooting for 800 this year, so that’s our goal,” Leoni said.
Organizers are also looking for volunteers and sponsors to help make the event possible.
“We do a lot of different events and it’s all because of the support of the community. We have an amazing running community. I mean, absolutely incredible,” Leoni said.
Participants can choose between a 5K run and a 1-mile Mini Trot.
Online registration closes at noon Nov. 25. Race-day registration and packet pickup begin at 6:30 a.m. Nov. 26, with registration closing at 7:30 a.m.
Those who want a Gobble Wobble shirt must register by Nov. 11.
All participants will receive a finisher medal, and awards will be presented to the top three overall male and female finishers.
