MAKANDA, Ill. (KBSI) — The annual Vulture Fest returns to downtown Makanda this weekend, featuring live music, local artists, food vendors and shopping.

The free festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17-18, along the village’s historic boardwalk.

Live performances will be held at the Makanda Pavilion and Rainmaker’s Garden, featuring bluegrass, jazz, blues and other musical genres.

Artists from across the region will display and sell handmade jewelry, pottery, paintings and other artwork. Food vendors and downtown shops will also be open throughout the event.

The festival celebrates Makanda’s arts community and the annual fall gathering of black vultures and turkey vultures, which inspired the event’s name.
