Antique collection on sale at Cape Girardeau warehouse

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – Brian Winans, who helped organize the sale of much of former Southeast Missouri State professor Wally Rexroad’s antique collection, says Rexroad wanted the sale to be…

“An artistic experience, if you will. More than just an estate sale. This is not just a bunch of stuff to sell for him. He’s very particular about finding art within the antiques.”

Possibly the most impressive part of Rexroad’s possessions is his collection of art.

Winans, an artist himself, said Rexroad had quite an influence on him from the time he first visited Rexroad’s store, The Furniture Garden, when he told Winans this: “Antiques are art, and art is life, so you need to get involved. He’s been an artistic influence in my life ever since. He still inspires me to this day.”

Customer Chris Breite, who attended the sale today with her husband, said the amount and variety of things at this sale is truly impressive.

“You never know what you’re going to find, you know, and my husband and I, we walked through it once and we said, ‘There’s probably something we missed.’ So,we’re going through a second time.”

And in a world where some folks want to get their hands on as many antiques as they can, there are very few who hold a candle to Wally Rexroad.

The sale will run through Wednesday at 775 Progress Drive in Cape Girardeau.
