FOX23 News at 9 p.m
JACKSON, Mo., (KBSI) – Uptown Jackson is accepting applications for its Hometown Heroes Banner Program, which honors active-duty service members and military veterans with personalized banners displayed throughout the community.
The program will feature 45 banner spaces on existing Uptown poles. Applications will be accepted from Jan. 1 through March 1 on a first-come, first-served basis. Banners will be displayed from Memorial Day through Veterans Day.
Each banner will include the honoree’s photo, name, military branch and years of service, as well as the sponsor’s name.
Honorees must meet federal definitions for active-duty or veteran status, and proof of service may be required.
The cost is $100 per banner. After the display period, families may choose to receive the banner as a keepsake, have Uptown Jackson store it for reuse or renew the banner for $50 if it is returned in good condition.
An example design shared by organizers honors Cpl. William Joseph Moyer of Tamaqua, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division. Final banner designs have not yet been selected.
Applications are available online at HOMETOWN HEROES | UJRO.
