JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) — High school students from across southeast Missouri gathered Friday at the Jackson Civic Center to compete in the Southeast Missouri Job Olympics.

The event features competitions designed to simulate real-world job tasks, including stocking shelves, sorting laundry and cleaning building areas such as vacuuming and sweeping.

Organizers say the Job Olympics is intended to promote transition and employability skills for a wide range of high school students from schools throughout the region. The activities are designed to help students develop strengths and practical skills they may use in the workplace.

Students are timed and evaluated during each event by local teachers, community members and business leaders.

The competition also relies on volunteers from around the region, allowing students to receive nearly one-on-one support while building connections with members of the community.
