COLUMBIA, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a trooper-involved shooting in Adair County that left a man dead following a daylong standoff.
According to KSP, the Critical Incident Response Team was requested by Post 15 to investigate the shooting, which occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Monday.
The incident began earlier in the day when deputies with the Adair County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance at a residence on Chestnut Grove Road. Authorities said Ryan Sneed, 39, of Columbia, was armed and fired at deputies and another individual, leaving them pinned down for several hours.
Additional law enforcement officers, including KSP troopers, responded and were also fired upon. The KSP Special Response Team was later deployed and successfully rescued the individuals who had been trapped, authorities said.
Officials said law enforcement attempted to negotiate with Sneed for several hours as he continued to fire at officers. Shortly before 7 p.m., Sneed exited the residence armed with a firearm, and members of the Special Response Team fired their weapons, striking him. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County coroner.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
During the incident, KSP also responded to two separate locations in Adair County where two individuals were found dead. Authorities said Sneed may be a person of interest in those investigations. A third deceased individual was later found inside the residence involved in the standoff.
KSP Post 15 is investigating those deaths, while the Critical Incident Response Team continues to investigate the shooting.
Officials said no additional details will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
