Armed suspect arrested after shelter-in-place issued near Du Quoin State Fairgrounds

PERRY COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — An armed and dangerous suspect was taken into custody late Sunday night after authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for residents near the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds, officials said.

The Perry County Emergency Management Agency alerted residents at approximately 9:26 p.m., advising them to shelter in place and lock their doors.

According to law enforcement sources, officers were searching for a wanted suspect who fled on foot during a traffic stop near the fairgrounds.

One suspect was later apprehended, and the shelter-in-place order was lifted. Authorities believe a second suspect may have left the area.

No additional information has been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
