Artwork donations needed for Cape Public Library repurpose project

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Public Library is offering an Art program specifically geared toward teens, as they share that summer break is the perfect time for teens to get creative.
Alli Boyer is the Youth Services Coordinator of the Cape Public Library she shares that the library is asking for donations of old art projects, old paintings both framed and unframed to repurpose.
“We have a program coming up it’s called ‘artwork thrift flip’ essentially, we are just taking old pieces of art we’re giving them a new life, a new purpose, and it’s a fun little project for teens” says Boyer.
“Essentially, we are just taking old pieces of art. We’re giving them a new life, a new purpose, and it’s a fun little project for teens. Gets them out of the house, gets them to the library” says Boyer.
Donated paintings can be dropped off at the Cape Public Library until July 7, and teens who wish to participate in the program can preregister on the library’s website.
“The summer reading program specifically is important because it keeps kids actively engaged with reading and practicing those literacy skills” says Boyer.” We typically experience the summer slide between May and August, where kids aren’t using those skills, so they’ll experience, kind of regression of the skills. So, you come here, you do literacy, activities, including reading or just using those literacy skills such as using your creativity to flip artwork. If you come to the library, you can also sign up for the summer reading program.”
