At least 4 dead after severe storms hit St. Louis area

ST. LOUIS, Mo., (KBSI) — A severe storm system tore through the St. Louis area on Friday, leaving at least four people dead and a trail of destruction in its wake.

Mayor Cara Spencer confirmed the fatalities during a 5:30 p.m. news conference, but details on the locations and circumstances of the deaths were scarce.

The storm brought heavy rain, hail and strong winds to the region, with radar suggesting a tornado may have touched down in St. Louis and Clayton.

Emergency management officials were assessing damage and beginning cleanup efforts, with crews working to clear roadways. Residents were advised to avoid travel unless necessary.
