Authorities investigating after death of Scott County Jail inmate

SCOTT COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Scott County Sheriff’s authorities are investigating after an inmate died.

A 30-year-old man was being held on drug charges when he tried to take his own life, according to Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Ron Meredith.

Scott County Sheriff’s nurse was able to resuscitate him.

He was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital where he died Monday night.

A Scott County Sheriff’s deputy says it happened at a time when inmates were able to roam free in and out of their cells.

Scott County Sheriff’s authorities are investigating.
