Several injured in school bus crash in Perry County, IL
PERRY COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – Several people were injured in a school bus crash in Perry County, Illinois Thursday afternoon.
A bus with St. Bruno Catholic School crashed with a semi truck around 3:10 p.m. on Route 51 near Kimmell Road near Sunfield two miled north of DuQuoin, according to the DuQuoin Police Department.
Authorities say at least five children and the driver were injured. The bus carried about 15 children plus the driver. The bus belong to St. Bruno Falcon Elementary School.
One person was airlifted from the scene. The others who were injured were taken to local hospitals.
All parents and family members of the children were notified. Some parents picked up their child at the scene.
Illinois State Police closed down Route 51 about a mile in each direction so troopers could investigate.
Route 51 was closed at Kimmel Road, according to the DuQuoin Police Department.
