HICKMAN, Ky., (KBSI) — A bald eagle was rescued near Hickman Harbor on June 8 after becoming entangled in fishing line, according to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.
Fulton County Dispatch received a report of the trapped bird and sent Deputy Jay Black and Hickman Police Officer Matt Hayes to the scene.
Local fisherman Remington Stewart assisted responders by transporting them by boat across the harbor to the eagle’s location. Authorities determined the eagle’s wing had become entangled in a limb line, leaving it unable to free itself.
After obtaining a transport cage, Deputy Black safely secured the eagle while responders carefully removed the fishing line. The bird was then transferred to personnel with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.
Officials said the eagle will be taken to a wildlife rehabilitation facility for treatment before being released back into the wild.
The sheriff’s office credited Stewart, the Hickman Police Department and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources for helping ensure the eagle’s safe rescue and recovery.
