Bald Knob Cross hosts first ever Christmas at the Cross

ALTO PASS, Ill. (KBSI) – “Christmas is just special. It’s an extra special holiday just all around from start to finish.”

And this weekend at Bald Knob Cross was a special one, as it hosted the first ever Christmas at the Cross.

Executive Director Jena Guined said there were some hurdles to get over to pull off this event, but she is pleased with how things turned out.

It’s typically cold, sometimes rainy, so it’s always been a little bit iffy. Are we going to try to pull this off? Are we not? Is anybody going to come? But we’ve just been so blessed with awesome weather, and I think since we’ve got a little bit of a game plan together, I think it’s going to grow, and we’re just going to keep morphing it into new things and see what works, what doesn’t work,” she said.

Guined described what Christmas means to her.

“It’s just a great time for people to be together with family and just reconnect with loved ones, but obviously with Christ being born, it’s so important as a Christian,” she said.

Volunteer Nate Bryant, who was rocking qutie the Christmas suit, explained what he enjoys so much about volunteering at the cross.

“Meeting new people, seeing the view, seeing the smiles on people’s faces,” he said.

And Guined said she couldn’t have asked for a much better event to wrap up what has been a great year.

“We’re going to finish out 2023 with a bang. Every event we’ve had has been absolutely amazing. The weather has been perfect,” she said. “We are looking forward to a very exciting 2024.”

This 2024 will include, of course, the Easter Sunrise Service, but also a solar eclipse viewing, at which Guined said they are expecting upwards of 1,000 people.”
