Ballard County awarded $100K for repair of bridge

BALLARD COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Friday that the Ballard County Fiscal Court will receive $100,000 in county road aid emergency funds to repair a bridge on Fraser Road Road.

“The Transportation Cabinet is pleased to approve this request for funding to provide assistance to Ballard County to repair and maintain safe connections in the community,” said Transportation Secretary Jim Gray.

Fraser Road (CR 1116) has been closed at mile point 1.238 since February 14. That’s when an inspection found issues with the substructure of the Buckler Branch Bridge. The bridge had previously been posted with a 9-ton load limit.

The Fiscal Court approved a contract for repairs to the bridge sub-structure. The repairs are believed to be able to be completed in about 90 days.

The Buckler Branch Bridge is along Fraser Road just over one mile north of KY 1837 in southern Ballard County.

The Ballard County Fiscal Court will provide a 20 percent match to the state funding. It is responsible for administering and supervising the work.

The KYTC Department of Rural and Municipal Aid maintains a special fund to assist city and county government agencies with emergency repairs to roadway infrastructure.
