Bank robbery reported in Washington County; suspects flee

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ill., (KBSI) — Multiple law enforcement agencies in southern Illinois are searching for suspects involved in a bank burglary reported early Tuesday morning in Washington County.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the Ashley Farmers and Merchants Bank around 3:50 a.m. after a burglary was reported. Officers with the Nashville Police Department also responded to the scene.
Investigators said the suspects fled moments before officers arrived. Witnesses reported seeing several individuals run from the bank on foot before entering a waiting vehicle and leaving the area. The vehicle was described as a black Mazda SUV.
Authorities said the case is being investigated as a joint, multi-jurisdictional effort. The number of suspects involved has not been released.
