Barkley Lock reopens after maintenance and inspections

GRAND RIVERS, Ky., (KBSI) — Barkley Lock reopened to barge and boat traffic at noon Wednesday, Sept. 30, following nearly two months of maintenance and inspections.
Crews drained the lock to inspect its gates, valves, concrete and other infrastructure and complete repairs.
With the lock back in service, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is coordinating traffic through Barkley and Kentucky locks to reduce a backlog of vessels.
