BBB offers tips for safe summer travel amid rise in short-term rental scams
ST. LOUIS (KBSI) — As the summer travel season heats up, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning travelers to be cautious when booking short-term rentals, citing a rise in scams targeting unsuspecting vacationers.
To avoid falling prey to these scams, the BBB recommends:
— Booking in advance and thoroughly researching the rental property and owner
— Understanding all policies and fees associated with the rental
— Saving all documents related to the booking
— Researching unfamiliar businesses and websites
— Never sharing personal information with untrustworthy individuals or businesses
— Using reputable websites and secure payment systems
“Booking a vacation rental can be stressful, and you don’t want a scam or unexpected charge to ruin your trip,” said Michelle L. Corey, BBB St. Louis president and CEO. “By doing your research and being cautious, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer vacation.”
