Beggs Family Farm opens for fall season, celebrates SEMO Day

SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – April Bond and the rest of the Pumpkin Picking Crew have made a tradition of coming to Beggs Family Farm, and she said the anticipation is through the roof every time.

“Everybody’s always ready, and the kids are like, ‘Do you have our tickets yet?’ and ‘Do you have our punch cards? Because we want to be able to do this, this, and this,’” she said.

Bond said the plethora of activities at the farm play a large role in that anticipation.

“There’s all kinds of things to do, from the little kids all the way up to the grown-ups, and each year, they’re just adding more and more things, so we just always have a blast when we come here,” Bond said.

One of those new things this year is the corn maze, which helps celebrate Southeast Missouri State’s 150th anniversary.

Co-Owner Donnie Beggs said this partnership has been wonderful for the farm.

“I had three kids, and my wife went to SEMO,” he said. “The whole community has been impacted by SEMO, so it was great to be able to partner with them and do that maze and have permission to do it.”

And Beggs Family Farm was once called Beggs Pumpkin Patch, but…

“We changed it to Beggs Family Farm because we wanted people to realize this is a family,” Donnie Beggs said. “We want you to be able to bring your family here, make memories. So, now we’re getting that next generation of people coming and saying, ‘I was here when I was a kid, and now my kids are coming.’”
