Benton man arrested on drug charges following disturbance investigation

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A Benton man was arrested on multiple drug charges after deputies responded to a reported disturbance Sunday night at a motel in Marshall County.

According to the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to Kenbar Lodge on U.S. Highway 641 North at approximately 9:42 p.m. June 21 after receiving a report that a man had allegedly threatened a woman and tampered with her property.

During the investigation, deputies identified the suspect as Mark A. Connelly, 49, of Benton.

Authorities said deputies discovered Connelly was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Connelly was arrested and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

He is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), first offense, a Class D felony; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor.

The charges are allegations, and Connelly is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
