Benton School District and Scott County Sheriffs Department investigates allegation of inappropriate conduct

BENTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A school district employee has been removed from their position amid an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct and communication with a student.

The district took immediate action upon receiving the allegation, removing the employee’s access to students, staff and district property.

Due to privacy concerns, the district declined to comment further on the matter.

The district is cooperating with local law enforcement and state agencies in their ongoing investigation.

The district emphasized its commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for students and staff and encouraged students and families to report any concerns.

Omar Campos was arrested on May 22, 2025 and according to the Scott County Sheriffs’ Department Campos faces charges of 1st degree harassment, 2cd degree sexual misconduct and fourth degree assault. The Kelly School District released a statement saying –The district received an allegation that one of its employees engaged in appropriate conduct and communications with a student. The district took immediate and substantial steps including removing the employee from the school and removing all access to students, staff and school property and contacted the sheriff’s department.

According to a statement released by the Scott County Sheriffs’ department it was found that all allegations happened on school grounds between October 2024 and May 2025.

Kelly Schools stated that -The districts remain steadfastly committed to providing an inclusive and safe environment for staff and students.

Campos has an arraignment hearing scheduled for May 27, 2025, at 11:00 am.
