Benton woman arrested on methamphetamine, drug charges

BENTON, Ill., (KBSI) — A Benton woman has been arrested after police said methamphetamine and other drugs were found during a traffic stop Monday night.
The Benton Police Department said an officer stopped a vehicle around 10:57 p.m. Sept. 15 on Joplin Street near North Buchanan Street. A Franklin County Sheriff’s Office K9, Stryker, was brought to the scene and alerted to the presence of drugs.
Police said a search of the vehicle turned up a substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, along with other controlled substances.
Amanda L. Dooley, 45, of Benton, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Class 1 felony, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance, Class 4 felonies.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to working with local agencies to improve public safety and combat illegal drugs.
Authorities emphasized that Dooley is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
