Beshear declares emergency as heavy rain, flooding threaten Kentucky
FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency Friday as a flood watch is in effect for parts of the state from Saturday to Sunday.
Heavy rainfall expected over the weekend, combined with previous rain, is likely to cause flooding statewide, Beshear warned.
Motorists are advised to check traffic conditions before traveling at GoKY.
“We urge everyone to exercise caution,” Beshear said. “Flash flooding can create hazardous conditions, especially on roads. Never drive through standing water, as it can be deceptively dangerous.”
In response to the emergency, Beshear activated the Kentucky Emergency Operations Center and units of the Kentucky National Guard.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and local emergency management officials are also on alert.
“Be careful, because of the amount of the amount of rain that will be coming down.” Says, Beshear.
Additionally, Beshear implemented the state’s price gouging laws to protect residents from overpriced goods and services during the cleanup and recovery efforts.
Consumers can report price gouging to the Office of the Attorney General.
