FRANKFORT, Ky., (KBSI) — Gov. Andy Beshear has signed a proclamation declaring Nov. 17–21 as Family Engagement in Education Week in Kentucky, coinciding with the launch of a new Parent and Family Connection Hub by the Kentucky Department of Education.

The online hub was created in response to recommendations from the Family Partnership Council, a group of parents from across the state who advise KDE on issues affecting families and student achievement. The council urged the development of a centralized resource offering age-appropriate strategies and tools to help families more effectively support their children’s learning.

Designed as a one-stop destination on KDE’s website, the Parent and Family Connection Hub provide easier access to educational resources, including news releases, legislative updates and guidance tailored to parents’ needs. Key features include sections on ways to get involved, academic support, diverse learning needs and whole-child wellness.

“Through the work of this dedicated group, the need for an easier way for parents and families to access educational information was brought to light,” said Marsha VanHook, chair of the Family Partnership Council. “We are excited to bring this idea to fruition.”

Family Engagement in Education Week was first launched in 2021 by the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, when Gov. Beshear issued the inaugural proclamation recognizing families and communities as essential partners in student success. The week also highlights schools and early learning centers that have earned Family Friendly School Certification — a designation awarded to institutions demonstrating strong commitment to family engagement. To date, 104 schools and centers have received the certification.

Throughout the week, KDE will spotlight a different parent or family resource each day, beginning with the new hub. Upcoming topics include attendance and involvement, academic support across grade levels, the use of Infinite Campus to monitor student progress and resources for physical and mental wellness.
