FRANKFORT, Ky. (KBSI) — Gov. Andy Beshear has signed legislation releasing $52 million to improve water systems in rural Kentucky communities.

House Joint Resolution 81 allocates nearly $26 million to Martin County, with additional funding going to the cities of Elkhorn, Evarts, Liberty, Martin, Oak Grove and Smithland, as well as the Southern Water and Sewer District in McDowell.

Beshear said the funding is aimed at expanding access to clean, safe water and upgrading infrastructure in areas that have faced long-standing challenges.

State officials said the investment is part of ongoing efforts to improve water reliability and infrastructure across the commonwealth.
