Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s deputies warn the public to beware of thieves who may be searching through your trash bins to find their next target.

Be careful about the information you give away, even unintentionally.

Leaving boxes from recent purchases or gifts out with the trash is like advertising what’s inside your home, according to deputies with the sheriff’s office.

To reduce the chances of your home being targeted, break down boxes and conceal them so that they’re not easily identifiable.
