Bicyclist seriously injured in crash with SUV in Sikeston

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — A 54-year-old Sikeston man was seriously injured in a crash with a patrol SUV while riding his bicycle late Wednesday night.

The crash occurred around 10:22 p.m. on South Kingshighway at Trotter Street, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Sgt. Clark Parrott.

A preliminary investigation showed that the bicyclist attempted to cross the road in front of the patrol SUV, which was traveling southbound, and was struck.

The bicyclist was flown to a St. Louis hospital with serious injuries.

The officer driving the patrol SUV was not injured.

According to the MSHP report, the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, and the SUV sustained minor damage.
