MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – Mississippi County Sheriff’s deputies warn people after a black bear sighting north of Charleston.

Sheriff’s deputies say they received confirmation from Missouri Department of Conservation authorities of a black bear sighting north of Charleston near County Road 220 and County Road 217.

Deputies warn if you encounter the bear to maintain a safe distance and avoid any attempts to approach or engage with it.

The Missouri Conservation Department will closely monitor the situation.
