Bleed Saluki Red: SIU Hosts 15th Annual Homecoming Blood Drive

CARBONDALE, Il., (KBSI) – The American Red Cross and Southern Illinois University (SIU) are teaming up for the 15th consecutive year to host the Homecoming Blood Drive on October 2.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the SIU Student Center, located at 1255 Lincoln Drive. This blood drive aims to collect over 130 lifesaving donations, making it one of the largest single-day drives in Carbondale.

Registered student organizations will compete for the coveted SIU Homecoming Blood Drive trophy, earning points for:

– Attempting to donate
– Recruiting others to donate
– Volunteering at the drive

The SIU Homecoming Blood Drive has collected nearly 3,000 donations over its 15-year partnership.

All presenting donors will receive:

– Exclusive Salukis on the Frontier Red Cross T-shirt (while supplies last)
– $10 Gift Card via email
– Entry into a drawing for one of three $5,000 gift cards

Eligibility requirements:

– 17+ years old (16 with parental consent)
– 110+ pounds
– Generally good health
– Blood donor card or driver’s license (plus two forms of identification)
