Blessing, ribbon cutting held for SoutheastHEALTH joining Mercy

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – There was a blessing and ribbon cutting to celebrate Mercy Hospital Southeast (formerly SoutheastHEALTH) joining Mercy Thursday, January 11.

It was 10 a.m. at 650 S. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau.

Another blessing and ribbon cutting will be held at 3 p.m. at Mercy Hospital Stoddard in Dexter formerly Southeast Health Center of Stoddard.

The two health care systems signed a definitive agreement in August for SoutheastHEALTH to become a member of the Mercy system. Leaders say it will strengthening health care delivery across southeast Missouri through increased patient access to high quality care.

Angie Umfleet is the first chairwoman of Mercy Southeast, she says it will strengthen health care delivery across Southeast Missouri through increased patient access to high quality care, “I think it’s a great time for change not only for Mercy Southeast, as a new entity but also to have new leadership, you know it’s an exciting time, so I’m excited for what the future holds for where we’re headed in the forward movement together.”

Ken Bateman is the CEO of Mercy Southeast and he said they’re looking to transform Cape Girardeau into a regional health care hub.

Bateman adds, “Today kind of culminates the hard work we’ve been going through the past year in terms of bringing two organizations together for a common cause.”

The celebration began with a blessing from Bishop Edward Rice from the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese.

Bishop Rice says, “By the grace of your Holy Spirit, make this place a place of Mercy. Where the Mercy team will practice the art of healing.”

Other former SoutheastHEALTH facilities and services have also been renamed.

All donations to the foundation will continue to remain local to support patients in Southeast Missouri.
