MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) — A precautionary boil water order has been issued for a portion of Homestead Drive in Mount Vernon following maintenance on the city’s water distribution system.

According to city officials, the order took effect at 6:45 a.m. Monday and is expected to remain in place for approximately 48 hours.

The boil water order affects addresses 1 through 11 Homestead Drive.

Officials said the advisory was issued because changes in water pressure during maintenance can disturb sediment in water mains. There is no confirmed contamination of the water supply at this time.

Residents in the affected area should boil water before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or preparing food until water quality testing is complete and the order is lifted.

For additional information, residents can contact the Mount Vernon Public Water Supply at 618-242-6851.
