MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — A boil water order has been issued for a portion of south Mt. Vernon following maintenance on the water distribution system.
The order took effect at 11:15 a.m. March 23 and applies to the 1100 block of South 15th Street, according to city officials.
Officials said the advisory is precautionary, noting there is no confirmed contamination. Changes in water pressure during maintenance can disturb sediment in water lines.
The boil order is expected to remain in effect for approximately 48 hours, or until testing is completed and the water is deemed safe.
Residents in the affected area are advised to boil water before use during this time.
