Boil water order issued for parts of Mt. Vernon

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — A boil water order has been issued for parts of Mt. Vernon due to maintenance on the water distribution system, city officials said.

The order took effect at 11:03 p.m. Sunday and affects the 1600 block of Isabella Street, 1701 Oakland Avenue, 1407 McPherson Street, and the 600 and 700 blocks of Kensington Avenue. Officials said the order is expected to remain in effect for up to 48 hours.

City officials said the advisory was issued as a precaution. Changes in water pressure during maintenance can disturb sediment in water mains. There is no confirmed contamination at this time.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to boil water until testing is completed and the order is lifted.

For more information, residents may contact public water supply operator Anita Flota at 618-242-6851.
