Break in cold case: arrest made in 2024 Marshall County murder

BOWLING GREEN, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky State Police Post 1 detectives have made an arrest following a Marshall County grand jury indictment connected to the 2024 murder of Jesse Moore.

State police said Haley Nelson, 39, of Bowling Green, was identified as a suspect through the investigation. The case was presented to the Marshall County Grand Jury on Thursday, Feb. 5, and the grand jury returned an indictment charging Nelson with murder and tampering with physical evidence.

Nelson was arrested Friday, Feb. 6, in Bowling Green and lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail.

Kentucky State Police Post 1 began investigating the death of Jesse Moore, 44, of Benton, in June 2024 after receiving a call from the U.S. Forest Service at about 8:30 p.m. CT on June 27 regarding an abandoned vehicle found in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

Troopers were asked to conduct a welfare check on Moore, who was known to operate the vehicle. Officers responded to a residence in the Possum Trot area of Marshall County, where they located a deceased male who appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound.

An autopsy conducted June 29 confirmed the identity of the deceased as Moore. State police said foul play is suspected, and the investigation has been led by Post 1 detectives.
