BREAKING NEWS: Another incident near Rally’s restaurant in Cape Girardeau

Shooting At Rallys Callie March 6

Cape Girardeau police are investigating a new incident near Rally’s restaurant on Sprigg Street, the same area that has seen multiple violent episodes involving guns since early September.

Witnesses reported seeing police cars swarm the area across from the Show Me Center, with one man being taken away in an ambulance after appearing to have a bloody face. Some also reported seeing a possible suspect fleeing the scene.

Authorities say the incident began with a warrant issued by U.S. Marshals. The area has become a source of concern for local residents, as several violent incidents have occurred nearby since September, including a shooting in which a woman was injured.

Local residents shared their thoughts on the recent uptick in violence, with some questioning the safety of the area.

“I think it’s been proven time and time again that the safety down there by that Rally’s by the university and Rhodes is not very safe,” said Christy, a citizen journalist.

Others pointed out the surprising nature of these incidents considering the proximity to Southeast Missouri State University.

“It’s surprising, given their proximity to the university, that they are having these types of incidents,” Christy added.

Cape Girardeau residents have expressed growing concern. In September, the university sent an email to students about a nearby gun-related incident. Since then, there have been multiple reports of gun violence near apartments along the same stretch of road.

“For me and my family, we don’t ever go to the Rally’s in Cape Girardeau,” said Dee, another citizen journalist. “If we eat at Rally’s, we typically go to the one in Jackson.”

Jill, another local, advised caution: “Be cognizant of your surroundings. That’s all you can do.”

This is an open investigation, now being handled by U.S. Marshals. Cape Girardeau police have said they are no longer involved.
