Buncombe Grade School among Illinois shelters opening ahead of severe weather

VIENNA, Ill. (KBSI) — Several communities across southern Illinois and southeast Missouri are opening storm shelters ahead of expected severe weather Sunday.

Illinois shelters:

– Buncombe Grade School — opening at 2 p.m.; main gym entrance will be open, with the basement classroom recommended for shelter

– Cypress Grade School — open during the severe weather threat; enter through the cafeteria door; locker rooms on the west end of the gym serve as shelter areas

– Vienna High School — doors A (main entry), J (commons area entry), and Q (gym entry) unlocked; locker rooms and both gyms recommended shelter areas

– Ozark Baptist Church — open; enter through the back fellowship hall door

– Simpson Baptist Church — fellowship hall doors unlocked; fellowship hall and gym areas recommended for shelter

Missouri shelters:

– Advance R-IV Schools — FEMA safe room opened at 11 a.m.

– Scott City High School — FEMA building opening at 4:30 p.m.

– Carter County — FEMA buildings in Ellsinore and Van Buren opening at 3:30 p.m., along with the Grandin maintenance building

– Steele East Elementary School — safety room available if needed

– Puxico Activities Center — FEMA shelter may open if conditions worsen or warnings are issued

– Bernie Community Center — will open if needed

Local officials encourage residents to monitor weather alerts and move to designated shelters if warnings are issued.
