BUTLER COUNTY, Mo. (KBSI) – The Butler County Sheriff’s Department has a warning for folks as they prepare to ring in the new year.

Sheriff Mark Dobbs says during the holiday season there is always a spike in theft and domestic crimes. He has these tips to keep residents safe.

“There’s a lot of tragedies this time of year,” said Sheriff Dobbs. “A lot of things that go along with weather and travel and things like that. Of course, we see issues with space heaters causing fires. We see traffic fatalities this time of year because of inclements weather. So, always be careful. Be cautious of road conditions. Don’t ever assume that roads are clear or safe. And give yourself a little bit of extra time to get there.”

Sheriff Dobbs says there will be plenty of officers out manning the streets for the next few weeks. He hope folks will be responsible through the rest of the holidays.
