Calloway County Jail warns public of bond payment phone scam
FOX23 News at 9 p.m.
CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — The Calloway County Jail is warning the public about a phone scam involving callers claiming to be jail employees or contractors.
Officials said they have received multiple reports from people who were contacted by individuals alleging that, in exchange for a credit card payment, a loved one could be released from jail on an ankle monitor. Authorities confirmed at least one person has already lost money as a result of the scam.
The jail emphasized that staff members do not call individuals to request credit card information and do not accept bond payments over the phone. All bonds are accepted in cash only and must be paid in person at the Calloway County Judicial Building during normal business hours or at the jail after hours.
Officials urged anyone who receives a call of this nature not to provide personal or financial information.
The warning was issued in coordination with the Calloway County E-911 Communications Center, the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, Calloway County Fiscal Court and the Murray Police Department.
