Camera-assisted speed enforcement begins Wednesday in I-24 work zone

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — Kentucky State Police will begin using a camera-assisted system to enforce the speed limit in an Interstate 24 construction zone Wednesday.
The Camera-Assisted Speed Enforcement unit, known as CASE, will begin operating at 6 a.m. between mile points 85.5 and 89. The posted speed limit in that portion of the work zone is 55 mph.
The system can detect vehicles traveling more than 10 mph above the posted speed limit. State law allows officers to issue citations using information collected by the device when required workers and safety vehicles are present in an active highway work zone.
Signs warning drivers about the automated enforcement have been posted for about a week.
The Christian County deployment marks the first use of a CASE unit in Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2. It is one of five transportation projects statewide assigned the technology.
The enforcement program was authorized under the Jared Lee Helton Act, which was signed into law in April 2025.
Drivers should obey the posted speed limit, remain alert and use caution while traveling through the construction zone.
