Cape County signs declaration for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – October is domestic violence awareness month.

According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline an average of 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. Thats more than 12 million men and women in the course of a year.

To help recognize efforts of victim advocates, professionals, survivors, their families, and the community and to unite to remember those lost to domestic violence and honor the progress in combating this crisis and collaborate for change the Cape County Sheriff’s Office and representatives from the Safehouse of Southeast Missouri and Cape County Commissioner’s signed a declaration.

The declaration was signed this morning on October 10 to recognize and support Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
