Cape Fire and CDC give tips on water safety
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo (KBSI) – Cape Fire and Dive team is practicing emergency diving tactics and gives tips on how to stay safe in the water.
The dive team is completing their practice at Cape County Park. “It is training today to be ready for any water emergency that may arise.” Says Cape Fire Department. Here are tips the Fire department gives to stay safe in the water when traveling this summer.
- Swim with a buddy if possible
- Always wear a life jacket in big bodies of water
- Stay hydrated in high temperatures!
The CDC says drowning is a major public health issue that can be prevented.
The CDC also gives tips on drowning for World Drowning Prevention week as July 25 is World Drowning Prevention Day.
- Learn basic swimming and water safety skills
- Build fences that fully enclose pools
- Always make sure children are supervised
- Learn CPR
- Know the risks of natural waters
- Avoid alcohol consumption before swimming
- Consider the adverse effects of medication you may be on
- Don’t hyperventilate or hold your breath for a long period of time
