CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The City of Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is accepting nominations for its 2026 Endangered Buildings List.

The list, first introduced in 2012, aims to raise awareness about buildings and structures in the community that the commission believes have historic value but may be at risk of being lost due to significant deterioration or possible demolition.

Nomination forms are available online at the city’s website or through the Planning Services Division at City Hall. Completed forms may be submitted by email or mailed to the Historic Preservation Commission at City Hall, 44 N. Lorimier St., Cape Girardeau.

Submissions must include the building’s address or a description of its location, an explanation of its historic significance, reasons the structure is considered endangered, suggested actions that could help preserve it and at least one current photograph of the building.

The deadline to submit nominations is March 6.

The commission is scheduled to review nominations during a public meeting March 18 and adopt the final list April 15. Both meetings are expected to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
