Cape Girardeau celebrates Global Running Day
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The rain did not stop people from celebrating Global Running Day at the Osage Centre on Wednesday.
Fitness and Wellness Specialist Christine Jaegers said the goal of this day is to get people moving and having fun.
“We ask them, ‘Do you want to do a one-mile? Do you just want to do a scavenger hunt? Do you want to do a 5K or a 10K? We don’t really care, as long as you’re moving and having fun, that’s the end goal of it,” she said.
Events like this give people the chance to experience the beauty in Cape parks.
“As the Fitness and Wellness Specialist, my goal in this community is to help people live a happier and healthier lifestyle,” Jaegers said. “So by coming out here and seeing the beautiful parks we have here, completely free. There’s no fee behind it. It’s not part of their gym. It’s a free park available for the community. So I’m here to help educate and get people to check out our beautiful parks. Whether they’re going through the woods or they’re going out on the cross country trail, take advantage. It’s free and right here in your community.”
Whether you have run multiple marathons or just want to walk to stay in shape, Jaegers said everyone can benefit from exercise.
“People think they need to come out and their goal is to run a 5K,” she said. “Well, what if you just came out and walked maybe a ¼ mile, and then the next day you walked a little bit more and a little bit more and eventually you’re up to a half mile. As long as you’re moving, that’s what’s important.”
And she says your end goal should just be a better you.
