Cape Girardeau Central High School band performs for VIP Industries Regency Beyond Borders day program

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A unique opportunity blossomed for the Cape Central High School band and members of the Regency Beyond Borders Day Program Wednesday afternoon.

The band performed a dress rehearsal for the attendees from VIP Industries Regency Beyond Borders in preparation for an upcoming competition.

Day Program Assistant Director Meghan Mills said a perfect set of circumstances brought them to this performance.

“I called the high school and asked if they had anything available, and they said, ‘Well actually, we do,'” she said. “We just really enjoy coming to live performances, and unfortunately, a lot of them are in the evenings, and we are mainly here during the day, so this is a great opportunity.”

VIP Industries provides adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities an opportunity to find purpose and success in the employment environment of their choice.

Cape Public Schools Director of Bands Josh Lamar told me what this performance meant to him and his band.

“It’s a great way to give back to our community,” he said. “In fact, one of the young men who was here used to be my neighbor, Ben, and it was really cool to be able to see him. I remember seeing him when he was young, and seeing VIP pick him up to go to work was really a good treat.”
