Cape Girardeau City Council to appoint new member
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The appointment of a new Cape Girardeau Council member will take place on Monday October 7, 2024.
On September 28, 2024, Rhett Pierce submitted his resignation from his Ward 5 City Council position. He was serving a term as Council member Ward 5 set to expire April 2028.
Section 3.07(c) of the City Charter states that the City Council must name a temporary replacement to fill the Ward 5 Council seat within sixty 60 days of the occurrence of the vacancy, which is November 27, 2024.
It was publicly announced on September 29 that applications for the Ward 5 vacant position would be accepted in the Office of the City Clerk through Friday, October 4, 3 p.m.
The following qualified applications were submitted for the vacant Ward 5 City Council position:

- Rachel Huebel
- Bryan Johnson
- James Lawrence
- Eric Redinger
- Shannon Truxel
The city council meeting to choose an applicant will be held today at 5 pm.
