Cape Girardeau Co. Health Board meeting interrupted by public

A meeting of the Cape Girardeau County Health Board ended early after several members of the public interrupted speakers.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – A Cape Girardeau County Health Board meeting that was open to the public adjourned early after several members of the public continued to interrupt speakers.

The Board of Trustees met at noon on Tuesday at the Shawnee Park Center. Several dozen members of the public were in attendance.

The Board attempted to talk about possibly re-instituting a mask mandate in Cape Girardeau County as total COVID-19 cases were up last week. However, several members in the audience kept interrupting the speakers and board members were not able to finish their meeting. The board voted to instead conduct a virtual meeting at a later time to finish its business.

Most people sitting in the audience did not wear a mask, while most on the Cape Girardeau County Health Board did wear a mask.

Last week, total cases were up 118 to 8,667 in a report released Friday afternoon by the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Center. Probable cases were up 35 to 2,102. Deaths remained at 138.
