Cape Girardeau County Collector reminds merchants to obtain licenses to sell fireworks

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — Individuals and organizations planning to operate fireworks stands in Cape Girardeau County must obtain a County Merchants License for each location, including cities within the county, according to Collector Barbara Gholson.

The merchant license, which costs $25, can be obtained at the Collector’s Office in Jackson or Cape Girardeau. Office hours are 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, except holidays.

Fireworks stands can operate in the county from June 20 to July 10, but cities may have local ordinances with different time frames. A state license is also required for each stand; owners can contact the Division of Fire Safety in Jefferson City for more information.

For questions about the county license, call 573-243-4476.
