CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — October is recognized as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to honor survivors, remember those lost, and renew the community’s commitment to prevention and support.

On Thursday morning, the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office joined representatives from the Safe House of Southeast Missouri and the Cape Girardeau County Commission for the signing of a proclamation officially declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in the county.

The sheriff’s office said it remains committed to working with advocates, survivors, families, and community partners to raise awareness and provide support for those affected by domestic violence.

“Together, we can continue moving toward a safer community for all,” the department said in a statement.
