CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The Cape Girardeau Firefighters Local 1084 announced Friday that Ladder 4, the department’s reserve ladder truck, has officially returned to service and is once again ready to protect residents of Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County.

Local 1084 extended its gratitude to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department mechanic team, Pro Tech Diesel Repair Shop, and Sentinel Emergency Solutions for their work repairing and restoring the vehicle.

“Their hard work and commitment to excellence reflect the best of teamwork and community spirit,” the firefighters’ union said in a statement.

Local 1084 also thanked citizens for their continued support and reaffirmed its dedication to providing professional, reliable service to the community.

The union additionally addressed ongoing challenges related to fire apparatus readiness, sustainable funding, and labor negotiations. Local 1084 noted that it has been more than three years—1,188 days—since the last contract expired, and members continue to work without updated labor protections.

“Despite our continuous efforts to reach a fair agreement, our members are still without essential protections that safeguard their families and ensure their safety on the job,” the statement said. “We remain steadfast, positive, and united in our resolve to achieve a contract that honors the dedication and sacrifices of Cape Girardeau’s firefighters.”

The organization encouraged residents to stay informed, ask questions, and hold elected officials accountable to ensure the fire department has the resources needed to protect the community.
