Cape Girardeau firefighters conduct annual hydrant testing

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau Fire Department will conduct fire hydrant testing throughout the city through mid-November.

The annual testing measures water pressure and flow rates in gallons per minute. The results are added to mapping software available in fire trucks, helping firefighters quickly identify the best hydrant near an emergency.

Crews will also document maintenance issues so Alliance Water Resources can make necessary repairs.

Residents may temporarily experience lower water pressure while testing is underway. Tap water may also appear discolored or cloudy as increased water flow stirs up sediment in the system.

Anyone who notices discolored water should let the faucet run until the water clears. If the problem continues, residents should contact Alliance Water Resources or the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.
