CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The firefighters union representing Cape Girardeau firefighters has filed a lawsuit against the city following years of contract negotiations.

IAFF Local 1084 announced the lawsuit Thursday, alleging the city failed to bargain in good faith during more than four years of negotiations.

Union officials claim the city-imposed changes to overtime, pay, shift trades and working conditions without reaching an agreement.

The union said it is seeking court intervention to enforce what it describes as violations of state law and constitutional rights.

Officials added they remain willing to return to negotiations.

The City of Cape Girardeau has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
